Avocado Pear

Insightful Information about the Avocado Pear

Most people know what an avocado and pear is but few have ever heard of an avocado pear.  This tropical fruit is shaped like a standard pear with skin that is green or black and pulp that is a vibrant yellow that encases one, very large seed.  This fruit is more commonly called the avocado, which is edible and delicious.

While most people think of the avocado as a type of vegetable, it is actually a fruit.  Because the avocado pear is a tropical type of fruit, it needs regions around the world with humidity, which is why it is often grown in Central America and America.  However, the avocado can grow anywhere as long as the climate is right.  Interestingly, once the tree is planted, it takes up to 10 years to begin producing fruit.

If you live in a non-tropical part of the world, growing an avocado pear tree outdoors would be challenging because of frost and cold temperatures.  However, if you want to grow a tree such as this that would produce delicious avocados, you can simply grow it indoors where temperatures can be controlled.  For this, you want to choose the largest pot possible.

When you purchase an avocado pear in your local grocer, the seed inside can actually be used to grow a tree.  Also referred to as “avocado stones”, it takes a lot of time for it to germinated but to promote faster growth, the following steps to start your own avocado pear tree would help.

Now, while the germination process of the avocado pear seed is easy, even if you get the seed to split and roots to grow, after planting it in soil, it may or may not grow.  Even if it does begin to grow, it may not live very long.  However, you can do a few things to promote a healthy tree, such as providing it with fertile soil and keeping it moist, placing the tree in a location where it would be exposed to sunlight, and make sure it gets adequate humidity.  If you do not have a greenhouse, you can purchase a humidifier to help.

The bottom line is that while the avocado tree is beautiful and in time, it produces delicious avocado fruit, getting this kind of tree to grow is challenging.  However, since it is so easy to germinate the seed of the avocado pear, trying to grow a tree such as this would be a great family project.  Then if you were successful, you would be rewarded with a beautiful tree, and fruit that is delicious and loaded with nutrients.
